BOZEMAN - A flagpole 25 feet high now stands outside the home of a Bozeman man who served in World War II. Church friends of Bob McGray, 83, teamed up with the Gallatin Valley Marine Corps League to put the pole in his yard recently. Flags of the United States and the Marine Corps were raised on Memorial Day.

McGray was 17 when he enlisted in the Marines in 1943 and then fought in the South Pacific.

Church friend Nicholas Moffat said he was giving McGray a ride home one day when he mentioned that his flag didn't fly freely and said that bothered him. Planning for the new pole then began.
